Frequently asked questions

Everything you might want to know about MilaPay. Still stuck? Tap the WhatsApp button and we'll help.

What is MilaPay?

MilaPay is a simple money book for small businesses. It helps you keep track of who paid, who still owes, and reminds you who to follow up with — all in plain language, no accounting jargon.

Do I need to know accounting to use it?

Not at all. If you can use WhatsApp, you can use MilaPay. We built it for everyday business owners — cake sellers, hairstylists, plumbers, spaza shops — not accountants.

How much does it cost?

You start with a free 30-day trial with everything unlocked — no card needed. After the trial you can choose: stay on the free plan, or go Paid at R99 a month to keep all the features. You can cancel anytime.

The free plan lets you keep using the basics — up to 20 saved customers, 10 payment requests a month, and 30 days of payment history. The Paid plan unlocks unlimited customers and payment requests, full history, and reminders to follow up with customers.

How do customers pay me?

Money goes straight to you. MilaPay never holds your money — you can connect your own Yoco account so customers pay you directly, or simply record payments you've received however you normally get paid.

Is MilaPay a payment gateway? Does it hold my money?

No. MilaPay is not a payment gateway and it never holds, touches, or processes your money. It's a tool for tracking and following up on payments and building customer relationships — the actual money always goes straight to you.

If you connect your own Yoco account or request payment via payment links (Payfast, iKhokha, SnapScan, etc), customers can pay you directly through the links you provide to them, and that money lands in your account, not ours. You can also just record payments you've received any other way — cash, EFT, however you normally get paid. You stay fully in control of your money.

How do the reminders work?

You set a check-in reminder for a customer, and MilaPay shows you who to follow up with. You send the message from your own WhatsApp with one tap — keeping it personal, the way your customers already know you.

Is my information safe?

Yes. Your data is protected, your login is secured with a one-time code sent to your phone, and we never share your information. You can read the full details in our Privacy Policy.

Can I use it on my phone?

Definitely. MilaPay works right in your phone's browser — no app to download. Most owners run their whole business from their phone, and MilaPay is built for that.

You can save MilaPay to your home screen so it opens like an app, with one tap:

On iPhone (Safari): open milapay.co.za, tap the Share button (the square with an arrow at the bottom), scroll down and tap "Add to Home Screen", then tap Add.

On Android (Chrome): open milapay.co.za, tap the three dots (⋮) in the top right, then tap "Add to Home screen" (or "Install app") and confirm.

A MilaPay icon will appear on your phone, just like any other app.

What makes MilaPay different from an accounting app?

Accounting apps are built for the books — tax, reconciliation, statements. MilaPay is built for the relationship: who paid, who still owes, and who to follow up with. It's about staying on top of your customers and your cashflow the way you already work, not learning accounting. Many owners use MilaPay alongside whatever else they have.

Can I use MilaPay outside South Africa?

MilaPay is built for South Africa first, and that's where it works best right now — including paid subscriptions. You're welcome to try it from elsewhere during the free trial, but some things are set up for South Africa for now. We'd love to hear from you if you're outside SA and keen — it helps us plan where to go next.

Who is behind MilaPay?

MilaPay is built by a small South African team who care about helping local businesses spend less time chasing admin and more time growing. We're actively building and we genuinely want your feedback — it shapes what we do next.
